Comment by January 5 to oppose the Polluted Water Rule.
Greens Bayou in Northeast Houston.
The Trump Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have announced a new proposed “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule that dramatically restricts which water bodies are protected from pollution and destruction under the Clean Water Act. The agencies are accepting public comments on the proposed rule through January 5, 2026. Through this commenting portal, you can tell the federal government how this decision will impact you.
This is your opportunity to make your voice heard. You can submit the comment we have drafted, or further customize the comment to share how the rule change will impact you - whether you have concerns about flood risk increasing in your neighborhood, more trash and pollution entering a bayou that you love, or your overall desire for strong environmental protections.
Waters that will be impacted include the bayous, creeks, and wetlands that feed into Buffalo Bayou, Brays Bayou, Cedar Bayou, Sims Bayou, White Oak Bayou, the Brazos River, San Jacinto River, Trinity River, and Galveston Bay. Learn more on our website.
Submitting comments will lay important groundwork for longer-term change by (1) documenting the widespread opposition to, and impacts of, this unpopular decision; (2) preserving options for challenging the rule through litigation; and (3) building support for statewide, regional, and local change.
